Meredith Radke-Gannon is known for her emphasis on color, texture, abstracted landscapes, and family heritage. She grew up in McPherson, Kansas where the heartland has open spaces and prairie. The path toward being an artist has allowed her to recreate visual mixtures of images about nature, people, and indigenous-inspired subject matter.
Meredith studied at McPherson High School and went on to graduate in K-12 Art Education at Kansas State University. Afterward, she attended and graduated from the Kansas City Art Institute with a BFA degree in Fiber. Recently, she earned her Masters in Education from Emporia State University.
The artwork created is mostly oils, acrylics, woodworking, silkscreen, and fiber. There are different challenges each media brings. There is freedom in the fluidity of paint but more complexity of techniques in weaving, wood, and pen/ink.
I became inspired in the 3rd grade when my teacher would bring in professional guest artists to teach us about art and drawing. My grandparents, from Oklahoma, took me to meet the famous Cherokee artist, Willard Stone. From that time forward, my love of art and creating art has grown. I feel honored to be a tribal member of the Cherokee Nation. Currently, I am blending my ancestral ideas of the Cherokee and German sides of my family.
